The Gancini – celebrating the icon of Salvatore Ferragamo

Florence, January 24th, 2019 - Salvatore Ferragamo is proud to reveal a new monogram created by Women’s Creative Director, Paul Andrew, that celebrates the symbol of the house: The Gancini. Its unveiling will be marked by a series of exciting projects dedicated to telling the story of this very special design.

The Gancini is the instantly recognizable double-hook fastening that evolved from the wrought iron hardware, made for the tethering of horses, set into the side of the Ferragamo building in Florence, Palazzo Spini Feroni. It has evolved to become a symbol of Salvatore Ferragamo and its values.

To mark Paul Andrew’s fresh reinterpretation of the symbol of Salvatore Ferragamo’s heritage, craftsmanship and quality, the house is launching two new initiatives - the first traditional, the second digital.

For the first, Ferragamo is partnering with a selected group of fellow artisanal companies across the world whose own heritage and expertise it greatly respects.

For the second, Salvatore Ferragamo has reached out to some of the most compelling talents in the contemporary fashion-sphere - including Bryan Boy, Caro Daur, Diet Prada, Tamu McPherson, Pelayo Díaz, Aureta and Susie Bubble - to co-create a witty portfolio of innovative, immersive and entertaining content that highlights the unique status of The Gancini. Masterminded by Bryan Boy - the ‘director’ of the project - these Made in Florence short films and posts humorously explore the pleasures and perils of living life through a digital lens. All of it, naturally, accessorised by fabulous Gancini pieces. It will premiere on January 24th across all Salvatore Ferragamo digital channels - and be reflected in the content generated by our influencer partners.

Andrew said: “As a designer, I appreciate the innate elegance of the Gancini’s refined simplicity and the sensuality of its form. Another aspect is its duality: two clasps that connect and hold together. The beauty of the Gancini shape is something I’ve worked to emphasize and enrich through the creation of this new monogram.”

The Gancini both encapsulates our values and transmits them. However, you wear the Gancini - and there are many ways to wear it - when you do, you are expressing your membership of the Salvatore Ferragamo family. And Salvatore Ferragamo is proud to welcome you as a member of that family.
